The Good Stuff

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is considered the safest and most effective nutrient available. Research indicates it has a positive influence on everything ranging from the heart to your skin. This nutrient can be obtained from fruits and vegetables, as well as supplements if needed. The official RDA is 75 to 90 milligrams, which is much lower than what some studies recommend.

It is a well-known fact that orange juice is a rich source of Vitamin C. A single glass of good-quality orange juice provides around 200% of the RDA.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is relatively rare, which is why vitamin D deficiency is quite common. It is found in fortified milk, oily fish, mushrooms, and similar sources. However, recent study indicates that Vitamin D can be made available through orange juice. It was believed that this nutrient was only soluble in fat, which is why milk was fortified with it. But evidence suggests orange juice can be fortified with vitamin D and delivers the same results as regular supplements.

Folic Acid

Folic acid is the synthetic form of folate, which is available naturally through various fruits and vegetables. Folate is water-soluble B-vitamin that is essential to maintain good health. It assists in creating red blood cells and white blood cells.

It also helps convert carbohydrates into energy and produces both DNA and RNA. The recommended daily allowance of this nutrient is around 400mcg. Per hundred grams of orange juice contains around 12-20% of the required daily allowance of folate.

Potassium

Potassium is a charged electrolyte that is present in every cell of your body. It helps build muscle, encourages growth, maintains fluid and electrolyte balance, transmits nerve signals, and supports the body’s natural pH balance. It also plays a vital role in breaking carbohydrates down into simpler compounds and using them.

A single serving of good-quality, 100% orange juice can provide nearly 10% of the required daily allowance of potassium. Potassium can help you maintain your heart, kidney, and bone health.

Calcium

Calcium is an essential mineral and is found in abundant quantities in our body. It is primarily stored in the bones and helps strengthen them. This nutrient has a number of health benefits as it regulates blood pressure, assists in blood clotting, muscle contraction, and can help with nerve signal transmission.

Calcium can be obtained from a number of sources like fortified milk. However, if you don’t consume milk, it can be found in fortified orange juice as well. A combination of calcium and vitamin D in orange juice can help keep your nutrition levels up. A single glass of orange juice provides around 30% of the daily recommended value.
