Once the ingredients are mixed, place the sauté pan on a medium-high stove and bring all the contents to a simmer. Make sure you stir continuously so the ingredients don’t settle at the bottom or get burnt. Heat the sauce until it becomes thick, this should take around a minute.
Pour the water chestnuts, chicken, as well as the sliced green onions into the pan and stir carefully. Make sure all the ingredients are coated in the sauce completely. Continue to cook this mixture on a medium heat for around 2 minutes until the ingredients are warm enough to serve.
If you want to make this dish a little spicier, add around 1 to 2 teaspoons of hot sauce to the sauce mixture before you add the chicken.
Set all the lettuce pieces on a serving platter carefully and spoon in the hot chicken mix right onto the leaves. Once all of the lettuce cups are filled, you can sprinkle the chopped and toasted almonds as well as the sliced onions on top. The delicious wraps are ready to serve and are ideal appetizers or starters.
You can drizzle some chili oil on top of the wraps to add a hint of spice. This oil is readily available in stores, but you can also make some at home by adding chili flakes to sesame oil and heating it to blend the flavor.
